  • This week, the North Country SPCA is hosting adoptions for three bonded kitties—Felix, Mocha, and Luna—while Windham County Humane Society looks for an owner for Ozzi, an active shepherd mix, and Humane Society of Chittenden County is offering the bonded rabbits Lady and Bug for adoption.  NBC5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UVM’s Grossman business school launched Vermont’s first undergraduate co-op program today, letting six business students start full-time, paid roles lasting four to six months at companies like Wayfair and Beta Technologies. The program is backed by $15 million from the Grossman Family Foundation to expand immersive, career-based learning.  Burlington Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The NBC5 First Warning Weather team detailed the timing of the near-record cold that will drop temperatures this weekend (expect chilly conditions) in Burlington and northern areas. Residents should check the video forecast to prepare for the freezing air.  NBC5
  • Snow is forecast to develop Sunday night and continue into Monday morning across southern and mountainous areas of Vermont — drivers should prepare for potentially heavy snowfall of 8 inches or more and reduced visibility as a winter storm advisory remains in effect.  NBC5
  • A major winter storm is moving into the region today and through the weekend, bringing heavy snow and freezing rain. Burlington residents have already reported up to 5 inches of snow and are urged to travel with caution plus prepare for slippery roads.  Burlington Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vermont’s state-funded shelters will open statewide over the weekend for extreme cold conditions; Burlington’s shelter at the Miller Center in the New North End neighborhood will operate four nights from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., offering 100 beds for adults and allowing pets (with transportation provided from central locations).  Vermont Public
