- ➤ Some Vermont towns face a salt shortage before the cold, snowy weekend. In Rutland, Middlebury, Monkton and Vergennes, officials have scaled back ice removal and will treat main streets with salt while using sand on side roads, urging drivers to exercise extra caution until supplies are restocked. - ➤ Today's dangerous wind chill and below-zero temperatures are prompting Vermont Health Department officials to warn residents about frostbite risks, with Titus Mountain closing for the weekend to keep visitors safe.
