  • Ollie’s Angels, a nonprofit educating students about impaired and reckless driving after losing Elana (near Stowe), welcomed Ayla Bundalian as its first ski ambassador. The UVM nursing student will honor Elana’s memory by combining skiing with the campaign for safer roads.  NBC5

  • Paula Routly revisits a family love story by exploring letters from her parents in 1950 and an 1879 discovery found during Passumpsic renovations — a reflection of Vermont's enduring legacy of romance. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Satellite imagery shows nearly all of Lake Champlain is frozen except for a small area near Juniper Island. Officials say cold winters may bring lower summer water temperatures (helping control algae) and warn that ice can change quickly, urging everyone to test conditions before venturing out.  NBC5

  • Somali refugee Hussein Noor Hussein was released on bail by a Burlington federal judge after he met all immigration requirements following his detention outside the airport last month (he owns a local taxi company and his family celebrated the decision).  NBC5

  • Vermont Olympian Ryan Cochran-Siegle led Wednesday's downhill training at the Winter Olympics on the challenging Stelvio slope near Bormio. He finished 0.16 seconds ahead of Italian Giovanni Franzoni while another competitor was airlifted after a crash.  NBC5
  • Deedra Irwin, a Vermont Army National Guard staff sergeant, is aiming to become the first American to medal in Olympic biathlon in Italy after a seventh-place finish in China; she shared an inspiring message at Michigan Tech, urging students to trust the process and let their dreams evolve.  NBC5
