  • Local restaurants are preparing for the busy Super Bowl rush as orders pour in weeks ahead. Businesses like Wings Over & Folino's Pizza in Chittenden County are ramping up staffing and supplies to meet game-day demand.  NBC5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • House education chair Peter Conlan presented a rough draft school redistricting map that consolidates districts to 27 but leaves four upper valley towns unassigned and aims for 4,000 to 6,000 students while Gov. Scott advocates 8,000 to 9,000 students. The House Education Committee will hear testimony on the proposal today.  NBC5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Burlington saw 10 days below zero this winter, marking the coldest period since 2015, and snow totals reached 55.1 inches (6.4 inches above normal) as of Feb. 4; meteorologists predict even colder weather with lows near -8 later this weekend.  Burlington Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Burlington will open an extreme cold weather shelter at Robert Miller Community Recreation Center on Saturday and Sunday nights to help people and pets avoid harsh cold. Transportation from designated stops is available during shelter hours amid a shortage of space for over 200 unsheltered residents.  Burlington Free Press
  • State officials are backing a proposed Vermont Green FC license plate that would let drivers show team pride while funding climate action, outdoor recreation and environmental resilience statewide. The plate would cost under $100 upfront with an annual fee and may soon offer a new way to support local initiatives.  NBC5
  • At the State House on Thursday, advocates and lawmakers marked 3SquaresVT Awareness Day to review last fall’s federal shutdown that threatened SNAP funding. They asked state officials to keep protecting food access as new federal changes complicate benefit renewals.  NBC5

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vermont Recovery Day will be held Feb. 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Montpelier's Supreme Court auditorium (111 State St), where advocates including Patty McCarthy will honor local recovery leaders and promote efforts to build recovery systems centered on individuals.  Burlington Free Press
