  • At Cochran's Ski Area in Richmond, a watch party held on Friday showcased the Olympic opening ceremony to support local skier Ryan Cochran-Siegle and over 200 U.S.-based Olympians. Meanwhile, Switchback Brewing launched new online takeout and will host Olympic trivia on Tuesdays in the Queen City.  NBC5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vermont teen Colby Tuller honored his family history by joining a Best Defense Foundation trip to Berlin last November to meet WWII veterans and attend an NFL game. He now studies at Norwich University, planning to join ROTC and share veterans' stories (a once-in-a-lifetime trip).  NBC5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, a blast of arctic air is expected to push windchill to minus 20 (or even minus 35) and put pressure on heating supplies, as local fuel providers are urged to prepare for increased demand amid reports of fuel and firewood shortages.  VTDigger

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, the Vermont Supreme Court upheld Mountain Top Resort’s contempt ruling against neighbors John and Deborah Gerlach for altering ski trails in Chittenden. The decision ended a yearlong legal dispute and sets the stage for mediation next spring (pending expert review).  VTDigger

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vermont hospital leaders are partnering to share equipment & staff to guide patients to the right care and cut costs. The new plan helps ease crowding at larger centers while giving local communities access to essential services.  VTDigger
  • Some Burlington residents are under a boil water notice on Friday after a water main broke near Ledgewood Circle at 3 p.m. in the South End — officials are testing the system to confirm water safety before lifting the notice.  NBC5

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data shows that median home prices in Chittenden County dropped 5% in November compared to October, with single-family homes falling 8.3% and condos dropping 15.7%. Recorded home sales declined 20.5% from November 2024 (analysis by Realtor.com).  Burlington Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pucks dropped on Friday at Mallet's Bay for the 13th annual pond hockey tournament that turns a frozen stretch of Lake Champlain into an arena for teams from across the country. Organizers will monitor the weather as playoff games approach on Sunday (players and fans stay hearty despite the cold).  NBC5
  • Burton Snowboards launched a limited-edition From Burton to the World collection featuring snowboards, outerwear and accessories with rider-chosen phrases ahead of the Milan Cortina Games. Engineers (based in Burlington) fine tuned each board with millimeter adjustments while athletes tested the gear in early competitions.  NBC5
  • NBC5 has launched an interactive map that shows the hometowns of four Vermont Olympians gearing up for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Ryan Cochran-Siegle from Richmond (silver medalist in 2022) trains abroad as Team USA prepares its ski lineup.  NBC5
  • Vermont Olympians Ryan Cochran-Siegle and Jessie Diggins will compete in today’s medal rounds at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. NBC broadcasts live events including men’s downhill alpine skiing, women’s skiathlon & men’s big air snowboarding.  NBC5
