COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Golfers will swap grass for ice on Lake Champlain today at 10 a.m. at Colchester's Bayside Park for the 8th annual Camp Ta-Kum-Ta ice golf tournament — a charity event that funds free, year-round programs for children with cancer and their families.  NBC5

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Vermont Historical Society’s Vermont Firsts exhibit celebrating America’s 250th anniversary is on view through June in the Local History Gallery at the Vermont History Museum (featuring items such as a 1915 Boy Scouts jacket and early industrial artifacts) and additional anniversary projects will be announced soon.  Burlington Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • House leaders introduced a draft plan aiming to consolidate 119 school districts into 27 units — a move that would reduce school choice and spark debate over local control in education. Lawmakers will consider the proposals in upcoming sessions to balance efficiencies with community needs.  Vermont Public

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Vermont officials discussed building wildlife crossings during a Transportation Committee hearing to reduce collisions and connect animal habitats. However, a key project on I–89 and U.S. 2 in Waterbury was delayed due to funding gaps — state planners say additional plans remain under review.  VTDigger

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vermont will nearly cover the entire state with high-speed fiber internet over the next few years as NTIA funding unlocks $93 million to connect the last 1,300 addresses, mostly in the Northeast Kingdom + state lawmakers plan to ensure clear service transition notices for customers.  NBC5

  • A Vermont bill is pushing insurers to cover IVIG treatment for children with PANDAS, a condition that can cause severe rage following strep infections. Elizabeth Bechard’s 7-year-old son missed school while his insurer repeatedly denied coverage for the treatment he needs.  VTDigger
