  • On Wednesday, Feb. 18, the Kelly Brush Foundation will host a screening of the award-winning documentary 'Best Day Ever' at the Elley-Long Music Center in Colchester. The film follows community members facing disability challenges and highlights adaptive mountain biking and sports participation.  NBC5
  • The annual Great Ice Festival brought hundreds to Lake Champlain in North Hero this weekend as attendees walked, skated, biked & snowmobilized on the frozen lake amid the first full freeze since 2019. Organizers said the event strengthens community spirit by celebrating winter outdoors.  NBC5

  • Cabot Hosiery Mills named Angelica Taylor as its new president today, marking the first time a non-family member leads the maker of Darn Tough socks. Taylor, who joined in 2021 and later became chief operations officer, said she will guide the company forward while honoring its Vermont heritage.  Burlington Free Press

  • The Young Writers Project has published this week’s entry, 'How many roads' by Maelyn Slavik (15), with artwork 'Snow Day' by Amelia Van Driesche (19) in Burlington. The online platform for teen writers and artists has shared local work since 2006.  VTDigger

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vermont lawmakers advanced a bill repealing the mandatory retirement age for college professors; if passed, the change takes effect July 1. The measure, described as a technical correction to align state law with federal law, now moves through the Senate Committee on Education.  VTDigger

  • Mikaela Shiffrin, who trained at Burke Mountain Academy, finished 11th with a time of 2:14.42 in Sunday’s Women’s Giant Slalom while Paula Moltzan placed 15th + Shiffrin is set to race in the slalom event on Wednesday, Feb. 18.  NBC5
