  • Vermont hot-air balloon pilot Jeff Snyder (owner of Above Reality Hot Air Balloon Rides) spent six weeks flying safari rides over the Serengeti with Serengeti Balloon Safaris last fall, showcasing his growing skills among lions, zebras, and elephants.   • State leaders review school budgets amid rising health insurance costs and inflation. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources has proposed easing permitting for developments in unmapped wetlands in community growth areas. Conservationists warn the change may risk vernal pools that help regulate floods and support local wildlife.  VTDigger

  • Vermont ski racer Bronson Culver has been named to the 2026 National Brotherhood of Snowsports roster; he is training in Italy to compete on the world ski-racing circuit + bring more diversity to the sport. The organization’s fundraiser starts Feb. 28.  NBC5
  • Mount Anthony aims to extend its 36-year streak at the high school wrestling state championship starting today at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg. The meet will conclude Saturday with finals scheduled to begin around 6:15 p.m.  Burlington Free Press
  • Vermont basketball won their America East game on Thursday, Feb. 26 when Noah Barnett made a putback with 10 seconds left, beating UMass Lowell 66-64 at Patrick Gym (home court) and keeping the Catamounts in playoff position ahead of a regular-season finale against Albany on Tuesday, March 3.  Burlington Free Press
