ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rising temperatures can cause ice jams when melting ice (from mild conditions, rising river levels and gusty winds) clogs channels and leads to flooding damage. • Today, scattered showers and gusty winds are expected in Burlington as temperatures reach the 50s. Later, broken downpours & pockets of freezing drizzle may occur while a warm spell is forecast to cause rapid snowmelt and localized flooding risks before colder air returns.  NBC5

HEALTH NEWS

  • Daylight saving time begins Sunday, Mar. 8 in South Burlington — clocks will move forward at 2 a.m. to create later sunsets with darker mornings; NBC5 meteorologist Matt Diloreto warns the shift may disrupt sleep patterns and affect health in the short term.  NBC5
