  • On Sunday, the 30th Burlington Irish Heritage Festival opened at Contois Auditorium—families gathered to enjoy Irish step dancing, live music, and cultural activities that celebrate their heritage. Organizers partnered with Vermont Folklife and plan more events ahead of St. Patrick’s Day—bringing the community together to share Irish culture.  NBC5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Vermont Electric Co-op leaders will host a webinar on March 27 from noon to 1 pm to show how drones improve grid reliability and aid storm recovery.   • Vermont voters at Town Meeting Day passed over 90% of school budget proposals from at least 101 districts, showing strong support for public schools. The Vermont Rural School Community Alliance said policymakers must plan thoughtful education finance reforms instead of a rushed one-size-fits-all fix—especially for rural schools.  VermontBiz
  • Governor Phil Scott proposes cutting the $18 million universal free school meals program to help lower education costs after property taxes rose nearly 14% last year. Local food advocates warn that ending the program may hurt school kitchens and Vermont farmers who rely on the local foods incentive program.  VermontBiz

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Casella Waste Systems and University of Vermont are teaming up to launch the Casella Center for Circular Economy and Sustainability at UVM's Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources—funded with $1.5 million and led by Professor Eric Roy—and will host research, workshops, and lectures on sustainable waste and materials management.  Burlington Free Press

  • State Rep. Monique Priestley and State Rep. Angela Arsenault on Monday urged Vermont lawmakers to pass Daniel's Law to protect judges, police and public servants by restricting personal data—similar to New Jersey’s law after a 2020 attack—so that officials can work without constant threat.  VermontBiz

  • The Boston Bruins are teaming with the Burlington Amateur Hockey Association to help Vermont girls try hockey by giving free equipment and professional coaching—more sessions will be available soon.  NBC5
  • The No. 15 Vermont women’s basketball team will face No. 2 NC State in the NCAA Tournament first-round game on Saturday, March 21 at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh. The Catamounts earned their bid with a 62-55 win over Albany in the America East Conference championship — they return to the tournament for the first time since 2023.  Burlington Free Press
