CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested 35-year-old Jeffrey Domingue from Sheldon and 37-year-old Joseph Paige after a 31-year-old man was attacked in his parked car on Pearl Street in downtown Burlington just before 5:30 p.m. last week and forced into a truck, with his minor injuries treated at the University of Vermont Medical Center—both suspects are held without bail—while the investigation continues. - ➤ The trial of former Vermont State Police trooper Giancarlo DiGenova began in a Barre courtroom Monday morning as he was accused of stealing seized items from lockup in 2022 — a $1,500 Rolex watch and AirPods are among the items cited — while his defense attorney argued that the evidence would show he did nothing wrong. - ➤ Jurors heard opening statements on Monday in Burlington in the federal trial against biomedical researcher Serhat Gumrukcu, who is accused of funding a $300,000 murder-for-hire plot that led to the January 2018 killing of business partner Gregory Davis. - ➤ Vermont’s Department of Housing and Community Development reopened its Manufactured Home Improvement and Repair Program for 2025 yesterday — offering nearly $2 million for park improvements, home repairs, and foundation installations. The program has supported over 640 projects — and applications will be accepted until May 15 to help eligible mobile home park residents maintain safe housing. NBC5
- ➤ Last week, Blue Cross Blue Shield’s money troubles led lawmakers to propose several bills that will change hospital payment rates, set new pricing rules by 2027, and expand Medicaid help for treatment while also pushing measures to improve workplace violence prevention and data privacy—efforts aimed at keeping our health care system stable.
