  • Montpelier's proposed $650,000 funding cut threatens Burlington's expanded food shelf and community resource center on North Winooski Avenue just as construction nears completion & city officials have met with lawmakers to urge continued support for the daily hot meal service and essential care provided.  Seven Days
  • NOFA-VT is offering $200 grants to local members hosting dinners with local organic food to help neighbors connect. The nonprofit received 173 applications late last month and plans to support about two dozen dinners statewide (with translators and discussion prompts provided) if donations increase.  Seven Days

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Vermont startup Tuktu Care is expanding an AI-driven platform to help locals hire vetted caregivers for everyday non-medical tasks. The service, priced at $25 to $45 an hour, requires background checks (including local references and training) to ensure trust.  Vermont Public

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NOAA issued a G2 geomagnetic storm alert that may let Burlington residents see the northern lights tonight after sunset despite cloudy skies & light snow. The best viewing is between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.  Burlington Free Press
  • The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation reminded lake users that work disturbing the lakebed is not allowed from March 15 to July 1 to protect spawning fish. Permitted projects, such as installing docks + buoys, may continue while permit applications are still reviewed.  Burlington Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorneys for Middlebury College and former Governor Jim Douglas argued Wednesday in Royalton before the Vermont Supreme Court over changing the chapel name from Mead Memorial Chapel to Middlebury Chapel. The court will decide in three to six months whether to dismiss the case or proceed to trial.  NBC5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Vermont Green F.C. defeated Portland Hearts of Pine 1-0 at Virtue Field in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup + David Ismail scored the game-winner in the 40th minute as the team now awaits its next opponent once first-round games conclude.  NBC5
  • The VBCA announced senior all-star rosters for a showcase at Windsor High School on Saturday, Mar. 21. Games begin with a girls' Division III-IV contest at 11 a.m. and a boys' game at 5:30 p.m., plus 3-point contests and awards (players of the year and outstanding underclassmen).  Burlington Free Press
  • The Vermont Girls Hockey Coaches Association announced today's all-league teams for the 2025-26 high school season. The announcement includes first, second, and honorable mention selections in the Metro and Lake divisions (Lake Division includes both A and B teams) with players of the year named for each league.  Burlington Free Press
