COMMUNITY NEWS

  • South Burlington plans a walk-bike bridge to improve safety on I-89 — proposals are due April 3, and construction is set to begin later this year. Local officials say the project will help connect neighborhoods and benefit local businesses.  NBC5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Golden Hour Social Club, launched by DJ Talena Companion, held its inaugural dance party with a Pink Pony Club theme at the Delta Hotel in South Burlington—guests danced to familiar tunes and RSVP’d quickly, with a follow-up event planned for April 24.  NBC5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • At the State House on Thursday, pay equity groups kicked off Women's History Month with the Women, Work, and Wages Report, which found that Vermont women earn 86 cents to every dollar and urged better wages + working conditions to support families.  NBC5
  • New unemployment claims in Vermont increased from 322 to 457 for the week ending March 14, according to a Labor Department report — national claims fell to 205,000.  Burlington Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologists forecast that after a dry start today, conditions will worsen Friday evening with rain and wet snow affecting northern areas while southern regions remain warmer; a Canadian front will bring a mix of precipitation and gusty winds Sunday into Monday (travel may be tough).  NBC5

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Rick and Mark Bove—of the pasta sauce company—plan to renovate the 24 apartments at 300 Main Street in Winooski for market-rate rents without adding units; permits were approved last week and construction will begin soon.  VTDigger

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local voters can choose the Delta Dental tournament MVP from the 2026 high school girls basketball playoffs, with voting open until 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 26. The poll features top candidates from champions including Mount Mansfield and Richford (such as Morgan Campbell and Sophia Derby).  Burlington Free Press
  • Coach Alisa Kresge has rebuilt Vermont women's basketball into one of New England's top defensive teams while recording five straight 20 win seasons. The Catamounts, the No. 14 seed, will face No. 3 Louisville on Saturday, Mar. 21 at noon in the NCAA Tournament (their third appearance in four seasons).  Burlington Free Press
