COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Philo Ridge Farm in Charlotte reopened as a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the future of food and agriculture and completed its transition on March 24. The 500-acre farm will welcome the public back this summer and is hiring for its food and beverage program—more details will be announced soon.  Burlington Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Burlington now has a new movie venue at Main Street Landing where the Vermont International Film Foundation shows both new and independent films after the Roxy closed. Executive director Steve MacQueen said the screenings are drawing strong crowds — he plans to add more showings soon.  Seven Days

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At today’s press conference, Governor Phil Scott said he would scale back the hotel—motel program to protect vulnerable Vermonters and invest in housing while he waits for the Senate to act on the revised Budget Adjustment Act. He explained that the new plan would lower spending from the original $163 million and focus on proven shelter and affordable housing services rather than a program that has been linked to 135 deaths since 2020.  VermontBiz
  • Experts said Vermont lawmakers’ handwritten ethics disclosures were hard to read and inconsistent between the House and Senate—making it hard for Vermonters to see potential conflicts of interest. They urged the legislature to standardize and digitize the forms—improving access to clear information.  Seven Days

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVM Health Network reached a tentative settlement with the Green Mountain Care Board to settle a dispute over $80 million extra patient revenue by agreeing to pay $11 million to primary care providers and $12 million to Blue Cross Blue Shield — it will also fund an independent review that restricts hospital executives’ bonuses. The agreement still awaits approval by the network’s board and the care board and will allow UVM Medical Center to bring in more revenue in 2026 and 2027.  VTDigger

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Gryphon in downtown Burlington was named Vermont’s top seafood restaurant by Yelp after customer reviews highlighted its creative twists on classic seafood dishes and signature cocktails. The restaurant opened in 2014 and serves daily at 131 Main St. — it offers brunch on Sundays.  Burlington Free Press
