  • More than 1,100 people joined the 31st annual Penguin Plunge on March 14 at the Burlington waterfront to raise over $585,000 for Special Olympics Vermont — funds that will support sports training, health screenings and competitions statewide.  Burlington Free Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that Vermont residents earned $35.76 per hour in December 2025 (up from $34.79 in June) and ranked fifth among New England states, indicating steady wage growth. This figure highlights local economic trends.  Burlington Free Press

  • NOAA's forecast says a minor solar storm could bring northern lights tonight over Vermont, though clouds and rain might lessen the view between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.  Burlington Free Press
  • A brush fire in Ferrisburgh burned 100+ acres Monday afternoon before being contained as multiple crews battled wind-driven flames across fields and woods. Officials warn that wet weather can dry out fast and urge residents to check with local fire wardens before burning.  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers are considering H.837 — a bill that would let retailers round cash transactions to the nearest nickel as pennies vanish from circulation. Some Vermont businesses already use rounding, and the legislation will be implemented optionally to ease transactions while monitoring cost impacts on consumers.  VTDigger
  • Vermont defended its Climate Superfund Act in Rutland when federal officials challenged the law on Monday, and state attorneys argued it helps Vermonters by recovering costs for climate adaptation while a decision remains pending.  VTDigger

  • Champlain Valley School District is reviewing a plan to develop over 600 housing units on a 30-acre parcel in Shelburne.
