COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Several Vermont grocery stores are changing their hours for Easter; stores like Shaw's and Trader Joe's will operate normally while ALDI, Target, and Costco will be closed. Shoppers should check local hours before heading out on Easter Sunday, April 5.  Burlington Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • UVM Hillel has kashered its building to maintain a kosher Passover space for students through April 9, and the community began celebrating the holiday today — Hadley Kalson said the event is a time to reflect and come together.  NBC5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NBC5 meteorologists reported Friday morning 48 wind gust reports across Vermont and northern New York reached up to 54 mph, causing outages and a tree falling in St. Albans. A storm arriving this weekend will bring heavy rain & melting snow with cooler conditions and light showers early next week.  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • US Forest Service announced it will close its Burlington research office at the UVM lab (George D. Aiken Forestry Sciences Laboratory) as part of a national reorganization and move its headquarters to Salt Lake City. The closure affects five full-time researchers and local collaborations.  VTDigger
  • Vermont Air National Guard remains overseas as their combat mission has exceeded 100 days, leaving families uncertain about when their service members will return home. The decision for their homecoming will come from U.S. Central Command and could extend for up to two years.  Vermont Public
  • Mini Truck Day on Friday, April 3, gathered truck owners outside the Statehouse in Montpelier to back a DMV bill to define these vehicles and simplify registration; Senator Becca White said the Senate passed it and it now waits in the House Transportation Committee + it may ease owners’ challenges.  VTDigger

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rising vet costs are causing many pet owners to delay adoptions, and the Chittenden County Humane Society reports frequent pet surrenders due to high bills. Two new clinics will open soon on Dorset Street in South Burlington to help cut wait times — lower care costs may follow.  NBC5
  • A new 49-chair dental clinic in Colchester will offer discounted care and Medicaid acceptance while training dental students when it opens in May 2027. Senators Sanders and Welch secured 4.6 million dollars in federal funding to help ease the state's dentist shortage.  NBC5

  • The Vermont State University Castleton softball team won 11-7 over Norwich on Thursday, April 2 — the Spartans built an early 9-4 lead with 15 hits while Alex Brouillette from Highgate recorded a season-high three hits and two RBIs to boost their win total.  NBC5
