  • VEDA approved nearly $13.9 million for 32 projects between Jan. 1 and March 31 to boost downtown development, business & farm recovery, and infrastructure improvements; the funding supports a wood pellet mill conversion in Newbury, grocery expansion in South Burlington, and flood recovery work in Montpelier.  Burlington Free Press

  • A new dental school and clinic in Colchester plans to offer affordable dental care and train more dentists to meet the growing demand in Vermont (boosting local dental services).  Burlington Free Press
  • Fifth-grade students at Fairfield Center School launched rockets on Monday as part of a STEM project under the Department of Defense’s Starbase program (a hands-on initiative that brings classroom lessons to life).  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vermont lawmakers are reviewing a bill to ban paraquat, a chemical linked to Parkinson’s disease (Bill H.739 passed the House on March 20 and is under Senate review) to reduce harmful exposure and protect local residents.  VTDigger
  • Aly Richards announced her run for governor Monday at Newbury Village Store. Her campaign held a 5:30 p.m. event in Montpelier Monday and will host another at Burlington Beer Company today, followed by a spring tour across all 14 counties.  NBC5

  • UVM students raised over $101,000 during the annual RALLYTHON dance marathon on March 28 at Dudley H. Davis Center to support Golisano Children’s Hospital — student organizers will present a check to chief of pediatrics Lewis First on April 21.  Burlington Free Press

  • Vermont-born Olympic rugby star Ilona Maher served as a guest broadcaster on ESPN’s Courtside during the Women’s Final Four over Easter weekend — a historic game where UCLA won their first championship by defeating South Carolina on April 5.  Burlington Free Press
  • At Virtue Field today, UVM fell 19-5 to No. 4 Princeton after a 13-0 first half in a men's lacrosse game, and coach Chris Feifs said the loss will serve as a lesson for the team before their next America East matchup on Saturday, Apr. 11 in Albany (5 p.m. start).  NBC5
