ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A grease fire in a Burlington home on Maple Street started when a resident used water—causing grease to splash and damage nearby cabinets, displacing seven residents and sending one to a hospital for smoke inhalation this morning. NBC5

- ➤ A key witness known as the hitman testified in Burlington on Monday describing how he impersonated a U.S. Marshal to kidnap and fatally shoot Gregg Davis in a murder-for-hire plot led by Serhat Gumrukcu—while the defense prepares its case this week. VTDigger
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Education Secretary Zoie Saunders sent a letter last Friday asking school districts to certify compliance with a federal ban on diversity, equity and inclusion practices within 10 days. Winooski district said it will not sign the certification and will discuss it at its board meeting on Wednesday — the decision follows guidance that links noncompliance to potential loss of Title I funds. - ➤ Rumeysa Ozturk, a Tufts University student who was held briefly in Vermont before being moved to a detention facility in Louisiana, has a hearing scheduled with a Burlington judge today at noon by phone—her lawyers petitioned to move her case to district court after her public support for Palestine led to her visa being revoked. The Vermont court will decide if it has jurisdiction over her case. NBC5
