- ➤ Residents rallied Saturday in Newport to support North Country Hospital after a state report from last fall recommended a major restructuring or closure. Retired nurse Christine Moseley and health care workers said the hospital is a lifeline for critical care because the nearest facility is over 40 minutes away—many vowed to hold more rallies if needed. - ➤ Members of the community gathered yesterday, April 12, at King Street Laundry for a free sew and print workshop hosted by Vermont Community Wash & Learn along with UVM’s Community Engaged Art class (Amalgamated Culture Works and At the Root Vermont LLC) where participants learned how to repurpose old sheets and clothes into tote or laundry bags and could get a screen-printed logo. The workshop ran from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., offered recycled materials and light refreshments, and included one free load of laundry for each participant. MyChamplainValley.com
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Colchester police, Essex police and Williston police responded after a man was found with multiple gunshot wounds near Ethan Allen Ave on Saturday morning; he was taken to UVM Medical Center and is in critical condition as officials believe the incident was isolated. NBC5
