ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gasoline prices in Vermont fell to $3.05 per gallon from last week’s $3.10, and Burlington prices dropped 2.6 cents to average $3.16 per gallon—this follows a recent peak that may mark the highest rates this season. The national average also declined to $3.13 per gallon as diesel prices decreased similarly.  VermontBiz

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hundreds gathered Monday morning outside the federal courthouse to support Turkish graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk, who was detained by ICE after her visa was revoked following her op-ed on Gaza. Three lawyers argued that her detention is unlawful due to lack of evidence and a constitutional violation—while they await Judge Sessions' decision on whether to move her case to Vermont for a May hearing.  MyChamplainValley.com
  • The Vermont Agency of Agriculture is surveying specialty crop growers to improve ties between local producers and restaurants—proposals for a New England dairy study are due on April 30, the Vermont Forest Industry Summit is planned for June 19, Spring Tree Fruit Meetings will occur on May 8 in Hinesburg and May 9 in Springfield, and a Vermont Pavilion will showcase booths at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York from June 29 to July 1.  VermontBiz
  • Lawmakers reviewed H.482, a bill that would let the Green Mountain Care Board adjust reimbursement rates and add an observer in hospitals—Blue Cross Blue Shield and hospital leaders testified about financial concerns and risks to established payment agreements. Committees are also considering bills on workplace violence prevention, health care reform, and transportation for medical needs as they work on changes to improve our health care system.  VermontBiz
