  • Foam Brewers will hold a weekend party in Burlington to mark its 10-year anniversary of craft beer, community, and concerts. Cofounders Jon Farmer and Dani Casey have shared plans that highlight local spirit.  Burlington Free Press
  • On Tuesday, April 21, the HomeShare Vermont program brought together longtime residents Jan Lillien (92) and Jack Jackobvitz (94) with Kai Brown, who now pays $350 a month and helps with daily tasks in their Brownsville home. The match came after a careful nine-month vetting process.  VTDigger

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A bystander in Barre rescued a 4-year-old girl & helped a 7-year-old boy escape a burning car near Beverage Baron after noticing smoke during a routine stop, and fire officials said the quick actions likely prevented further harm while the cause remains under investigation.  NBC5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Party City is making a comeback in Vermont by adding party supplies to six Staples stores (Barre, Bennington, Brattleboro, Rutland, South Burlington, and Williston); shoppers can now find balloons, banners, and more alongside office goods.   • Peter Schumann — 91 — of Bread and Puppet Theater has renewed his fight for peace with a new documentary, An Artist Responds to War, which debuts Sunday, May 3 at Greensboro’s Highland Center for the Arts and later online May 12.  VTDigger

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Olympic silver medalist Ben Ogden, a UVM alum who won two medals at the 2026 Winter Games, will deliver the commencement address for the class of 2026 on Friday, May 16 on the university green (introduced by Interim Provost Linda Schadler).  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Burlington signed a $20 million contract to build a pedestrian bike bridge over I-89 (linking sidewalks near Staples and CVS) to improve safety for walkers and cyclists. Construction will start this summer and finish in October 2028.  VTDigger

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVM Cancer Center ran a mobile lab demo behind the Statehouse yesterday, where students saw cancer cells with a high-power microscope (it also offers skin cancer screenings). The center will soon add colorectal and HPV screening kits and is hiring a provider while seeking rural health transformation funds.  VTDigger
  • Rising wildlife rabies has led officials to plan over 900,000 vaccine doses in bait across 10 counties early May. The bait will be dropped from low-flying aircraft in rural areas + placed by hand in denser spots to protect both animals and pets.  Vermont Public
