COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pet Connection featured local pets available for adoption on May 14, including Misty & Queenie, aged nine and 16, Thor, Molly, Anchor and a bunny that found a home.   • ONE Arts, a Burlington daycare, is temporarily closed as staff work on corrective actions required by the Vermont Child Development Division & state verification is needed before it reopens, with May 26 as the earliest possible date.  NBC5
  • Vermont Green FC and Vermont Works for Women announced their 'More Green More Good' partnership to launch the club's inaugural women’s team this summer — three women-owned businesses have signed on as sponsors pledging funds for each home goal. BUSINESS NEWS

  • J. Crew opened a new store at Maple Tree Place shopping center in Williston, moving into the former site of Agave Taco and Tequila Casa. The store offers men's and women's apparel, and officials say additional promotions will follow + check for details.  NBC5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Michael's College in Colchester will launch a new emergency services major in fall and offer deep tuition discounts to attract career-minded students, a measure to reverse nearly 50% enrollment declines — the program will train EMTs and firefighters using hands-on experience at the campus rescue station.  Vermont Public
  • The University of Vermont announced a $12 million budget deficit Wednesday and is reviewing cost-cutting measures but will not reduce housing; in Craftsbury, Sterling College will hold its final graduation ceremony Saturday and help 17 students continue their studies through teachouts.  NBC5

HEALTH NEWS

  • Howard Center's Jarrett House, a program for children in mental health crises, will close at the end of June due to staffing and funding shortages. The state is seeking a replacement program to provide round-the-clock care, leaving advocates to worry about the impact on child care.  Vermont Public
