  • Burlington’s food scene lifts as Sabah’s House plans to open a new location in June on Church Street (moved from its food truck kiosk), while PopUp Bagels readies its launch nearby and Things From Yaad serves Jamaican cuisine from 12 to 9 p.m. daily on Cherry Street.  NBC5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Preservation Burlington is hosting its annual self-guided historic homes tour on Saturday, June 13 from noon to 4 p.m. in various locations across Burlington, where participants will tour unique architectural sites and receive a booklet with historical details for each ($25 ticket), with light refreshments at the UVM Alumni House.  Burlington Free Press
  • Vermont rocker Grace Potter will release her new album Trespasser on Aug. 21 and will host her annual Grand Point North festival at Waterfront Park, Burlington from Sept. 18 — 20 featuring Portugal. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Burlington will gain an economic boost from the M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon and Relay, which is expected to bring $2.9 to 3.3 million from hotel bookings, food, drinks and entry fees. More than 2,000 runners + 3,000 relay participants and about 20,000 spectators will support local businesses during the Memorial Day weekend.  NBC5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Phil Scott threatened to keep the Legislature in Montpelier through the summer unless an education reform bill includes forced school district mergers. Lawmakers now back a voluntary consolidation process while GOP colleagues support the governor's demand — setting up a standoff that may delay reform until after May 29.  Vermont Public
  • UVM is holding its 225th commencement today on University Green with 3,703 graduates and keynote by Olympic medalist Ben Ogden (2022 alum). Nearby streets will be closed from May 14 to May 17 in several areas, including University Place and South Prospect Street.  Burlington Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State alum treatments have improved Lake Carmi’s water—initial readings mark the clearest since 1980—and DEC teams will visit every two weeks while UVM studies the treatment’s impact on local fisheries and summer life.  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vermont House lawmakers held a moment of silence Friday for former lawmakers Jason Barney (Highgate) and Noel Neely (Pomfret). Barney died earlier this month after battling cancer and Neely was found dead at her home last weekend amid a police review.  NBC5
  • On Friday, May 15, flags at public buildings in Vermont were flown at half-staff to honor fallen law enforcement officers on Peace Officers Memorial Day — a national tribute observed since 1962.  Burlington Free Press
