ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire broke out on the first floor of an apartment building on Spring Street Friday night and crews quickly extinguished the flames after residents self-evacuated; (one person was taken to UVM Medical Center and both units are now uninhabitable as the Red Cross assists displaced residents). - ➤ Vermont Smoke & Cure secured deals with Walmart, Kroger and Giant Food to bring its premium meat snacks to over 1,500 stores beginning in May. The company, which has crafted its products in its Vermont smokehouse since 1962, plans to maintain its strict quality process & careful method as it expands. VermontBiz

- ➤ Vermont Public added two new weekend music shows when a schedule change took effect on May 17, with Tad Cautious hosting All Ears on Saturday evenings at 6-p.m. and DJ Llu hosting Now Playing on Sunday evenings at 6-p.m. VermontBiz
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ For the first time, the University of Vermont held several indoor graduation ceremonies at Champlain Valley Expo during rainy weather—making it more comfortable for families and students. Eight separate ceremonies celebrated determined graduates, and events will continue today with UVM’s 224th Commencement Ceremony on University Green. NBC5

- ➤ Vermont League of Cities & Towns announced multiple deadlines and events for local officials; nominations for a PACIF board position are due by May 23 and Workers' Comp audits must be completed by then (2024 UI wage reports were due on April 30).
