  • Thousands of Burlington residents cheered on runners at the Vermont City Marathon today despite rainy weather. Organizers and spectators provided treats and encouragement to boost the runners and showcase community spirit (uniting locals and visitors alike).  NBC5

  • The latest Young Writers Project entry, 'AI: The Worst Part,' by Sophia Brooks, 15 (Westford) with photo 'Spring Dew' by Lila Crowley, 15 (North Middlesex) is now published. The online creative community, founded in Burlington in 2006, continues to support art and writing among local teens.  VTDigger

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Skip Lisle installed his Beaver Deceiver at Harriet Winter’s property in Morristown on Monday, May 11. The device, made of wood, wire and PVC tubing, lets water flow and keeps beavers from clogging the dam in a decades-long effort to help people and beavers live together.  VTDigger

  • Today, flags at public buildings in Burlington fly at half-staff from sunrise until noon to honor military personnel on Memorial Day + federal guidelines call for raising them fully after noon +.  Burlington Free Press

  • On Sunday, May 24, a record-breaking run unfolded at Burlington’s Waterfront Park as Ryan Smith, a Boston runner making his marathon debut, finished in 2:15:53 — a new men's record that qualifies him for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.  Burlington Free Press
  • Vermont Green F.C. women beat the Hudson Valley Crusaders 2 to 1 in their inaugural home win at Virtue Field on Saturday, May 23 (the first home win of the season). The team credited early goals by Georgina Clarke and Violet Rademacher and celebrated with a sold-out crowd.  NBC5
