- ➤ Students at Sustainability Academy celebrated their second annual Trout Parade Friday with a march of community signs and puppets, after months of raising trout. They will release the fish Tuesday into a stream that flows into the Huntington River + letting the trout continue their life cycle in the wild. NBC5

- ➤ Vermont singer Melissa D drew inspiration for her new track 'Songbird' after reading a Norman Rockwell children's book during her stay at Rockwell Retreat in Arlington. The song reflects her journey toward healing and choosing joy and is now available. Vermont Public
- ➤ Essex is celebrating early Pride with its fourth annual festival weekend. Events kicked off Friday with a comedy show and dance party; today, a vendor market begins at noon in Maple Street Park featuring drag performances, food trucks & a family-friendly happy hour. NBC5
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ New BLS data (May 2025) show many of Vermont’s top 25 highest-paying jobs are in medicine. Emergency medicine physicians earn nearly 380,000 dollars a year and roles such as obstetricians, surgeons, and psychiatrists command competitive pay. Burlington Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Senate and House passed two education bills that change school funding and district mergers by supporting regional resource sharing — measures aimed at easing pressure on property taxpayers and aiding school projects statewide. The bills now await Governor Phil Scott’s signature. Seven Days
- ➤ A bill on education reform returned to the Senate floor Friday after a conference committee worked late Thursday to finalize its provisions; if approved, it will move to the House next. NBC5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montpelier officials announced a 10-year Destination Management Plan to boost tourism and protect natural areas. Commissioner Heather Pelahm said the plan (5–10 years) will support local economies and help communities manage visitor impacts as it develops. NBC5
- ➤ Burlington's ONE Arts Community School remains closed after the Department for Children and Families found serious safety violations and required corrective staffing measures. Officials hoped to reopen on May 26 but will continue working on improvements until all issues are resolved (no law enforcement concerns are involved). NBC5
- ➤ Vermont National Guard soldiers were honored during a ceremony yesterday at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho, ahead of the upcoming deployment of the 3-172 Infantry Battalion (about 400 soldiers) to the CENTCOM region within the next month. VTDigger
- ➤ The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources announced plans for demand-based pricing at state parks and released draft rules on land management planning, with public input open until June 11 for fees and until June 18 for the new rules (public hearings run in Lyndonville, Waterbury, Burlington, or Ludlow).
