- ➤ Feeding Champlain Valley closed its locations on June 6 for an all-day meeting, so Addison Food Hub, Northwest Family Foods, and Burlington Food Shelf did not operate and will resume regular hours on Monday, June 9. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ House and Senate negotiators did not agree on a new meeting time for education reform talks after a public dispute last Friday, and many lawmakers worry about the process. Lawmakers (with the House suggesting next Thursday and the Senate wanting an earlier session) are set to debate more on the bill (including issues of funding and school rules) before a vote. - ➤ Vermont lawmakers sent the Kids Code bill (which limits addictive social media features for minors) to Governor Scott for review and paused other data privacy reforms due to strong lobbying. They plan to work on those proposals next year (after reviewing concerns from local businesses and tech companies). VTDigger
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Wildfire smoke from Canadian fires is reducing air quality in Vermont, and Burlington recently experienced very unhealthy PM2.5 levels—state officials urge residents to check trusted resources and use measures like recirculated air conditioning to reduce exposure. Health agencies also advise monitoring updated forecasts on sites like EPA AirNow to stay informed about changing air conditions. Vermont Public
- ➤ Hospice staff at UVM Home Health and Hospice voted Thursday to form a union called Hospice United — representing nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other team members at McClure Miller Respite House and on the community team. After their 88% vote is certified, they will begin bargaining their first contract with UVMHN management amid challenges over including non-nursing roles. VermontBiz

- ➤ Earlier this week in Hinesburg, community leaders held a ribbon cutting for Kelley’s Field II—a project that provides 24 affordable, energy-efficient apartments for adults 55 and older with accessible amenities including a lounge, community room, telehealth room, and walking loop—and it was funded with over $11 million from federal, state, local, and private sources.
