- ➤ Matt Coakley was named Senior Vice President and Market President of Verizon's Atlantic North Market, succeeding Chris Flood. He will oversee consumer sales, distribution and operational execution in 12 states including Vermont + the District of Columbia and lead roughly 3,000 employees. VermontBiz
- ➤ South Burlington's Dynapower launched its new MV Integrated PowerSkid (a pre-assembled containerized system) that offers easy installation for medium-voltage renewable, battery storage and hydrogen projects. The system is designed to support utility projects and data centers with flexible performance and streamlined design. VermontBiz
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Samuel Blatt, 33, of Colchester was sentenced by Judge Christina Reiss on May 30 to 49 months in prison—he must pay $14,100 in restitution—and he will serve 3 years of supervised release for robbing banks between February 28 and March 14. VermontBiz
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Labor said Vermont’s initial unemployment filings fell to 235 last week — down from 371 the week before. Nationally, new jobless claims increased to 247,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis. Burlington Free Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Representative Becca Balint drew criticism from the Vermont GOP when, at a town hall in Newport on May 28, she said that without legal pathways, the country would not have enough workers — a remark many found crude. She later apologized — calling her comment sloppy and insensitive while affirming her belief that all workers deserve fair wages. NBC5
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Blue Cross Vermont CEO Don George raised concerns over rising health care costs as the company reported large losses and insurers requested rate increases in the individual and small-group markets. Gov. Phil Scott signed S.27 into law to clear up to $100 million in medical debt for working and middle-class Vermonters+ a public review of these rates will continue until final decisions are made in August.
