  • Community members celebrated Friday on the statehouse lawn as Gov. Phil Scott signed law S.127 that requires landlords to accept an unexpired government ID, tax identification number, or Social Security number to prevent housing discrimination against migrants — advocates like Olga Cruz say the change removes a barrier to housing access but note further work is needed — as challenges still persist.  NBC5
  • UVM’s Center for Community News and the Vermont Community Foundation announced support for a new nonprofit, the Vermont Journalism Coalition, at a Friday conference.   • PC Construction received an award from the New England chapter of the Construction Management Association of America on June 4 in Boston for its major renovation work on UVM’s athletic complex.   • Berlin police arrested a Hinesburg woman named Sara Whritenour after a 115 mph chase that began at 1:22 a.m. Friday on Airport Road, with her erratic driving through Berlin, Barre Town and Barre City ending when she ran into a residence and resisted arrest, injuring two officers.  NBC5
  • A Hinesburg woman named Sara Whritenour fled from a traffic stop in Berlin at around 1:22 a.m. on Friday when she drove 115 MPH and injured two officers during a long chase through Barre Town and Barre City and ended up fleeing on foot after a spike strip deflated her tires—she had five active arrest warrants and was reportedly in possession of crack cocaine.  MyChamplainValley.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local stargazers can expect the Bootid meteor shower to peak overnight June 26—27 as the waxing crescent moon minimizes light interference, and the shower will be active June 22—July 2 with meteors visible high in the western sky with the chance of unexpected bursts.  Burlington Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Committee of Conference on H.454 reached an agreement that will transform Vermont’s education system and lower property taxes. Speaker Jill Krowinski said the deal reached yesterday in Montpelier — a result of cooperation among the House, Senate, and Governor that sets Vermont on a multi-year effort to improve public schools.  VermontBiz
