- ➤ On Friday, July 11, Wings Over Burlington reopened at 150 Dorset Street under new ownership in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials — the event featured free meals for South Burlington PD and Burlington FD members and available online ordering starting Saturday, July 12. VermontBiz
- ➤ Burlington-based CannaPlanners helped more than 250 cannabis brands build clear identities and websites in a tough market. Founder Will Read started the company in 2016 and it used Vermont’s strong local ties—investment from early Dealer.com and Widewail team members—to grow to over 400 cannabis websites along the East Coast. - ➤ Building Bright Futures announced $2.9M in Vermont Early Childhood Fund grants on July 14, awarding $1.9M for new projects and $1M for ongoing programs that will create over 180 early care slots and strengthen services for children across the state— including support for Burlington Children's Space— after a review of 101 applications. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Burlington officials worked on a future land use map during a Monday night work session to help meet a goal of adding 7,000 homes in 25 years. They aimed to speed up housing development and preserve green space and farmland — with a final vote expected in August. NBC5
- ➤ Burlington officials stated that the City Circles program will offer community-led solutions to low-level offenses such as littering and public alcohol use. Run by the Burlington Community Justice Center (with help from volunteers and community service officers), the program will require offenders to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday or face a misdemeanor charge. - ➤ The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets said the Farm Agronomic Practices Program is open for fall grants that help farmers pay for conservation practices at rates of $45 per acre for drilled cover crops and $30 per acre for other methods, with payments capped at $10,000 per farm until December 31—farmers should check they do not already have an active grant before applying. Other events include Christmas tree growers meetings on July 29 in Bethlehem and August 15 in Essex, a NOFA-VT workshop for new farmers on July 30 and August 5, a panel on Vermont’s food and farm future on July 23, and public meetings on environmental spending—details are available from local sources.
