  • Union Bankshares reported Q2 net income of $2.4 million compared to $2.0 million last year and said its total assets and loan volumes grew while interest income increased; the board declared a cash dividend of $0.36 per share payable on August 7—shareholders recorded on July 26 will receive the payment.  VermontBiz

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vermont Fish — Wildlife is offering free hunter education courses this fall for new hunters; in-person classes are held in August and September with final sessions in early October. The courses include basic, bowhunter, trapper, and combined training and are taught by volunteer instructors who stress safe practices, with details listed on the department's website.  VermontBiz

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, severe storms will hit Burlington from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.—the weather may bring fast downpours with up to 60 mph winds, a very low chance for a weak tornado, isolated power outages, and difficult travel conditions.  MyChamplainValley.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Vermont's congressional delegation secured nearly $23 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to replace the aging Winooski River Bridge, built in 1929, and to improve travel lanes for cars, bikes, and pedestrians. The funds will upgrade lanes—adding shared-use paths and better drainage—to help the bridge withstand extreme weather.  NBC5

  • Vermont Adaptive and Bart Adaptive Sports Center said they plan to join forces to offer more adaptive sports opportunities for people in Vermont. The merger is underway and will be legally completed by July 31 + programs and volunteering will keep running without interruption.  VermontBiz
