Burlington community will gather for a mass bike ride today at 5:30 p.m. to honor 16-year-old Shiloh Skalka, who died last month & promote safety among cyclists.
The ride begins at her memorial at the intersection of Locust and Pine.
A new partnership with the North Country Animal League now provides designated kennels for stray dogs from Hyde Park, Stowe, Morrisville, and Johnson.
The towns will form a committee in October to plan long-term care and host a Walk for Animal fundraiser on Sept. 12 at Stowe Cider.

Burlington-based Pacto Medical won a Red Dot Award for its Slimshot prefilled syringe that cuts packaging volume, lowers supply chain costs + eases environmental impact.
A prototype will be on display at the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore.
Ray’s Seafood Market & Restaurant, a family-owned business serving the community since 1952, will permanently close on Sept.
12 at 7 p.m. in Essex Junction, marking nearly 75 years of service.
Today, the Lake Champlain Chamber launched the Downtown Business Alliance to give Burlington’s business community a dedicated voice in policy and boost downtown vitality.
The initiative will form an advisory board and hire a Downtown Advocacy Manager before Oct. 1 — key steps for supporting local commerce.

Vermont Production Collective and VermontBiz Film have announced seven film projects to receive part of a $50K grant pool aimed at boosting local creative talent and spending.

UVM’s Sustainable Innovation MBA is ranked as the second Best Green MBA in the nation for 2027 and the Grossman School of Business earned a spot among The Princeton Review’s Best Business Schools.
The honors underscore UVM’s commitment to integrating sustainability, innovation, and personalized learning.
State leaders, including Governor Scott, raised the income eligibility for Vermont State’s Freedom & Unity program to $85,000 for the 2026-2027 academic year — a change that expands free tuition for more families.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife confirmed an endangered Timber Rattlesnake was found at a Shelburne shoreline on Tuesday.
The agency will release the snake into the wild soon as it investigates whether it swam from New York or was accidentally transported.

Burlington residents would face darker winter mornings and later sunrises if permanent daylight saving time is enacted; the change, passed by the House on July 14 and pending in the Senate, would shift light from early mornings to later evenings.
Experts warn commuters & schoolchildren may need to adjust routines.

University of Vermont Medical Center was named Vermont’s best hospital by U.S. News & World Report when rankings were released on Aug.
11. The hospital earned a 4-star rating for patient care among 16 state facilities.
