- ➤ The Art at the Kent exhibit 'Holding: Mementos Kept, Memories Kindled' opened Sept. 12 at Kents Corner in Calais and is on view every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit features 39 portraits and various installations that explore memory and shared humanity—highlighting works by Vermont artists. - ➤ The Vermont Repertory Theatre has secured a new headquarters on Commerce Street in Williston to serve as its rehearsal space and performance venue for the third season. - ➤ In 1850, Vermont lawmakers passed a Habeas Corpus Law that made the Fugitive Slave Law nearly impossible to enforce by requiring local officials to bring detained fugitives before a judge—Vermont citizens and newspapers held meetings to protest a law that forced them to support slavery.
