CULTURE NEWS

  • University of Vermont and Dartmouth will host Indigenous Peoples’ Day events as UVM offers a film discussion on Indigenous food sovereignty — a cooking demo with Navajo chef Brian Yazzie on Monday, while Dartmouth holds a Midnight Drumming & Demonstration and a fashion show through Oct 20. ECONOMY NEWS

  • A recent report shows Burlington's mortgage delinquency rate was 1.9% for loans over 30 days past due and 0.6% for those over 90 days—placing it 85th worst among 111 small metros. The report ties these figures to rising inflation, high home prices and increasing insurance costs that have been straining homeowners nationwide.  VermontBiz

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At Mad River Glen, visitors ride the scenic lift for one last look at Vermont’s fall colors before the historic single chairlift closes for the season today— the ski area will start making snow on November 1 and plans to open in early December if the weather holds.  NBC5
  • The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department said unallocated muzzleloader antlerless deer permits remain available after its September 9 lottery for the antlerless-only seasons from October 30 to November 2 and December 6 to 14—permits cost $10 for residents and $25 for nonresidents and are available online or from local license agents on a first-come basis.  VermontBiz

  • A survey of 5,014 Vermont adults shows that half of adult children have lent around $900 to their parents to cover bills and emergencies. Some respondents said the loans strained family ties — 8% reported hurt relationships — marking a change in traditional lending roles.  VermontBiz

  • Registration is open for the 2026 M and T Bank Vermont City Marathon and Relay on May 24, 2026 and youth events on May 23, 2026 — these races will draw thousands of runners to Burlington landmarks like Church Street Marketplace and the Burlington Bike Path.
