COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Thursday at 2:30 p.m., leaders at Generator Makerspace will cut the ribbon on a new electronics lab that has been in the works for two years — a project that gives local entrepreneurs, students and hobbyists access to industry-grade tools. The lab is designed to boost hands-on learning and help keep talent in Vermont.  NBC5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • BETA Technologies, an electric aerospace company based in South Burlington, launched its initial public offering of 25 million Class A shares between $27 and $33 per share on October 15 — a sale that could raise up to $825 million — with Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs leading the offering and plans to list on the NYSE under the ticker BETA.  VermontBiz

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gasoline prices in Burlington averaged $3.21 per gallon today, down 1.9 cents from last week and 6.6 cents lower than a month ago, according to GasBuddy's survey of 100 stations (AAA reported a state average of $3.14 per gallon with local prices ranging from $2.83 to $4.20).  VermontBiz

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Environmental groups allege that Vorsteveld Farm in Addison County illegally discharged toxic pesticides into a tributary of Lake Champlain—violating the Clean Water Act. Conservation Law Foundation and Vermont Natural Resources Council notified the farm owners on Thursday and the farm has 60 days to respond before a lawsuit is filed.  Seven Days

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • If the government shutdown lasts through October, more than 63,000 low-income Vermonters may lose their SNAP benefits and EBT cards could stop working on Nov. 1. State officials say they are still trying to plan how to cover food, fuel, and energy aid — key decisions remain pending.  Vermont Public
  • Vermont’s Clean Water Board is inviting residents to offer their views on the draft Clean Water Budget that plans to spend about $45 million to protect our water sources until November 16 — feedback which will guide the board's final recommendation in December. Residents may send comments by email or attend a public hearing on November 7, 2025, to share their ideas on improving water quality.  VermontBiz

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new Medicare report from the Commonwealth Fund ranked Vermont first for Medicare service quality on October 16, noting that 16% of older Vermonters rated their health as poor versus 25% nationwide and that only 14.3% of Medicare Advantage plans require prior authorization for specialist visits — a factor that comes amid major changes in the state’s health insurance market that may reduce options next year.  Vermont Public
