  • Families in Burlington are gathering on Thanksgiving morning at Smalley Park for the Turkey Bowl where the Finnigan and Mahoney families play football regardless of the weather + after the game, they walk to Pomeroy Park to honor loved ones and continue a nearly 70-year tradition.  NBC5
  • On Thanksgiving morning, about a dozen Burlington locals plunged into Lake Champlain wearing bathing suits, towels, and matching winter headwear as they prepared for celebrations. They said the cold plunge refreshed their spirits and eased physical pain—offering a unique start to the holiday.  NBC5

CULTURE NEWS

  • At least 13 dogs from Vermont traveled to Philadelphia for the National Dog Show, which aired Nov. 27, but only winners on Saturday were shown on TV—Gloria from Bennington and Olive from Pownal were among the Best in Breed winners, with Gloria set to compete at Westminster in December.  NBC5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The South Burlington School Board and the South Burlington Educators’ Association ratified a new teachers’ contract that retroactively covers July 1 through June 30 for teachers and a similar contract for support staff, with teachers receiving a 4.25% raise for the first two years and an inflation-based increase in the third year—support staff get a 5.25% raise for the first year with an inflation adjustment in the second. Negotiations were smoother than in past years, aiming to start the school year on a new page without ongoing public disputes.  VTDigger
