“Since it was so back and forth, it was like a complete mystery, what was going to happen.”

Essex did it despite heavy graduation losses. In D2, Middlebury's girls won a second straight title, closing the fifth set against Enosburg on an 8-3 run.

Four soccer state champions were crowned Sunday at Rutland High School, and the D1 boys game went to double overtime. Mt. Mansfield's girls beat Burr and Burton 3-2 in a back-and-forth D1 final.
