About this event

The Interfaith Center, with support from the Critical Race and Ethnic Studies Program, the Rubenstein School for Environmental and Natural Resources, and UVM Humanities Center, is pleased to host The Burnurwurbskek Singers in celebration of Native American Heritage Month.

Comprised of men representing many of Maine’s Wabanaki people (including the Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet, and Mic Mac tribes), the members of the Burnurwurbskek Singers have been singing and drumming together for almost 25 years. They perform traditional Northeast Native American woodland songs that date back to time immemorial, as well as more contemporary, intertribal songs. These songs have been passed down in their rich oral tradition from generation to generation - from fathers, grandfathers, and uncles to brothers, cousins, and sons.

Join us for an evening of traditional songs, the powerful sound of the drum, and an opportunity to participate in a communal dance. This gathering offers a chance to experience and celebrate Wabanaki cultural traditions through music, movement, and shared community.
