- ➤ Katherine Bramhall, a midwife who delivered over 900 babies in Vermont and New Hampshire, was named ABC22/FOX44's 2025 Remarkable Woman. She received a $1,000 check on April 1 — which she plans to donate to the Women’s Choice in Care Initiative — and will join over 100 other women on a trip to Los Angeles for an award ceremony. - ➤ Stowe Mountain Rescue recovered a skier on March 26 after he hit a hidden obstacle and slammed into a tree while skiing on Mt. Mansfield—he was in considerable pain and got prompt care from EMS. MyChamplainValley.com
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Federal prosecutors charged Connecticut man Tremaine Knight with murder for hire after he attempted to have an informant kill a man for $10,000 during drug sales in Brattleboro and Massachusetts—he will be arraigned in Burlington on Thursday. NBC5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Vermont's new tax commissioner Bill Shouldice explained how tax dollars from income, corporate and sales taxes fund the state's general and education funds—he noted Gov. Phil Scott has ruled out raising state income taxes even as federal spending cuts threaten budgets. Vermont Public
- ➤ Road work on Pine Street will resume in April as part of the Champlain Parkway Project, with construction between Kilburn and Main streets set to add new curbing, pavement, traffic signals—updating pedestrian crosswalks and sidewalks. The improvements will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday with completion slated for 2026, while Pine Street remains permanently closed between Queen City Park Road and South Crest Drive. - ➤ Vermont lawmakers introduced companion bills on March 31 to require Health Care Sharing Ministries to register with the state and file annual financial and membership reports—steps meant to protect consumers by showing Vermonters that these groups do not offer full health insurance coverage. - ➤ Nylah Mitchell, Burlington High’s Miss Basketball award winner (key player for her team), led her girls to a Division I state title that ended a 49-year championship drought after she scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and made five steals in the final game.
