- ➤ A rescue flight carrying 35 cats from Tennessee landed at Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport Tuesday evening to help at-risk animals find homes. Six cats remain locally while 29 head to shelters across the Northeast, said volunteer pilot Stephen Nur from Pilots To The Rescue. NBC5
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Trout fishing season opens this Saturday, April 11—anglers may face challenges from colder weather. The Fish and Wildlife Department advises fishing in lower-elevation rivers and using larger bait for a better catch. NBC5
- ➤ Vermont environmental officials are asking local residents to volunteer this summer to monitor lakes and ponds. Volunteers will collect water samples, track cyanobacteria blooms and invasive species, and inspect boats in several programs offered statewide (contact information is available from the DEC). - ➤ A bill to amend Act 181 is in House Committee on Environment testimony today and seeks to delay permits with Act 250 rules. Corinth resident Neil Ryan said rural communities worry tougher rules could hinder farms while officials back an option for towns to bypass the process to boost housing. NBC5

- ➤ Vermont got approval to use Medicaid funds for housing help for medically vulnerable residents but state leaders have not set aside local money, fearing federal backlash. Officials said they are still planning the program (which would cover rental aid and medical respite) amid concerns over jeopardizing their Medicaid waiver. Vermont Public
- ➤ Vermont will dedicate a roadside marker honoring Cpl. Leonard A. Lord, the first Vermonter killed in World War I, at 1 p.m. April 12 near Riverside Cemetery in Swanton (he was reinterred in 1921).
