- ➤ Mohsen Mahdawi, a Palestinian legal permanent resident who led protests at Columbia and was arrested on April 14 in Colchester, is held at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans—his case is set for a status conference today while his lawyers call for his release. - ➤ On Monday evening, Border Patrol agents arrested eight undocumented farmworkers living in one trailer on a Richford dairy farm & transferred them to ICE custody for deportation proceedings as legal aid groups work to secure bond hearings for the workers. Burlington Free Press

- ➤ Underhill Central School students collected more than 1,300 pounds of used batteries in four weeks to win the Battery Blitz recycling contest—earning a $1,000 check at an all-school assembly held this past Friday. - ➤ Vermont lawmakers passed a bill that uses $1 million from general funds to erase $100 million of medical debt for about 60,000 Vermonters—an effort led by Treasurer Mike Pieciak that will automatically enroll eligible residents and prevent credit agencies from counting canceled debt in credit scores. - ➤ Today, Senator Welch spoke at Thayer House in Burlington about his bipartisan CONNECT for Health Act, which would make COVID-19 telehealth flexibilities permanent for Medicare and Medicaid patients.
