- ➤ Vermont Arts Council awarded Vermont artist Noa Younse $42,000 to design a public art installation for the Windsor Superior Courthouse in White River Junction—his tile concept will connect the upper and lower floors as the renovation continues until early next year. In Burlington, artist Dan Gottsegen’s installation at the Department of Children and Families office on Lakeside Ave will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 29 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. VermontBiz
- ➤ Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson will speak in Burlington on Wednesday, April 30 at 4 p.m. at the Hotel Champlain—part of the 2025 Diversity Speaker Series—hosted by the Greater Burlington Multicultural Resource Center. Burlington Free Press
- ➤ A recent survey of over 3,000 families ranked Quechee, Button Bay and Camel’s Hump state parks among Vermont’s top family-friendly sites during National Park Week—each offering unique outdoor activities. - ➤ Burlington High School's 12-member debate team reached the national finals in Raleigh after defeating elite private school teams in its first competition year. Junior Sam Doherty said the team competed hard — showing promise for future contests — even though they lost to more experienced schools. Seven Days

- ➤ Lawyers argued in federal court on Wednesday that Upper Valley resident Mohsen Mahdawi was unlawfully detained in Colchester by federal agents during an interview for citizenship—protesters gathered outside the courthouse to support his release. VTDigger
- ➤ On April 21, the Vermont Housing Finance Agency Board approved $3.4 million in federal tax credits for four projects that will add 128 new affordable homes in Barre, Brattleboro, Highgate, and Hinesburg. The funding will generate $31.5 million in equity—helping low-income families and older adults—and support housing for those coming out of homelessness. VermontBiz
- ➤ The federal government filed an appeal against Judge Sessions’ ruling—ordering Rümeysa Öztürk, a Tufts student detained in Louisiana, to be moved to a Vermont facility by May 1—and asked for a stay of court proceedings while a bail hearing is set for May 9. VTDigger
- ➤ The Vermont Community Broadband Board finished collecting applications for the VT-BEAD Program on April 23, with 96% of eligible areas receiving submissions and 95% planning fiber optic service from five ISPs. The board will use nearly $229 million to expand high-speed internet—Executive Director Christine Hallquist said the board plans to contact providers in areas without applications—bringing Vermont closer to completing its broadband buildout.
