ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A contractor struck a gas line during Burlington’s Main Street project last Friday—causing a leak that led fire crews to evacuate businesses and homes downtown—and Vermont Gas shut off service to repair the leak. MyChamplainValley.com
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Burlington police are searching for a man accused of following a victim home and touching another inappropriately on North Prospect Street on April 23; he wore a black and gray sweatshirt and black jeans and anyone with information is urged to call (802-658-2704). NBC5
- ➤ Joseph Ferlazzo was sentenced yesterday to 42.5 years in prison for murdering his wife, Emily Jean, during a one-year anniversary trip in Bolton + he reportedly dismembered her body in their camper, with the judge calling the act a cruel and extreme display of domestic violence. - ➤ South Burlington's downtown is hosting the free two-day Illuminate Vermont Festival featuring local artists, food and drinks; the event began Friday at 5 p.m. and continues today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.—market street will host additional performances for all ages. NBC5

- ➤ UVM Health Network employees planted over 2,100 native trees and shrubs on Earth Day as part of coordinated events with Intervale Center+ staff at several hospitals joined in activities that support a healthy local environment. VermontBiz
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal judge in Burlington ordered that detained college student and Palestinian activist Mohsen Mahdawi remain in Vermont after he was arrested in Colchester on April 14, stopping Homeland Security from moving him to Louisiana. The ruling extends his detention for at least 90 days — he is set to appear in court on April 30. NBC5
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, April 28 at 6 p.m., The Safety Team—made up of trained martial artists and educators—will host a free self-defense workshop at the South Burlington Community Room at 19 Gregory Drive to teach techniques and boundary-setting skills during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The nonprofit will offer additional free workshops in the coming weeks for those unable to attend. NBC5
