  • BTV officials say the new $68 million north concourse has increased capacity for larger aircraft (overcoming limits of the old terminal) and improved services for passengers and airlines; nonstop flights to Houston will begin next month, and plans for a south terminal expansion will be voted on in 2028.  Seven Days

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rick Norcross, who led Rick and the All Star Ramblers for 60 years, will be inducted into the Heroes category at the Western Swing Fest (Mineral Wells, Texas) on May 2. This induction caps off his celebrated career in music.  Burlington Free Press

  • Saint Michael’s College will hold its 119th graduation on May 10, featuring Afghan education advocate Shabana Basij-Rasikh (a Middlebury alum who founded Afghanistan’s only boarding school for girls) who will deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary degree in Colchester.  Seven Days

  • Vermont and New York officials advise hikers several mountain trails are closed until Memorial Day due to muddy conditions.   • Vermont’s high living costs and challenging housing market are causing many young couples to delay starting families. Local residents say they need stable finances and a home before having children - a trend that has led to the state’s record-low birth rate.  Seven Days
