- ➤ A massive fire broke out Friday night at a South Burlington senior living facility on May 2 and displaced about 50 residents while firefighters, police, and the Red Cross worked to secure the area—authorities continue to investigate the cause and extent of the damage. The Other Paper
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Burke Mountain Resort was sold for $11.5 million as Judge Darrin Gayles approved the sale to Bear Den Partners on April 24 and the closing took place on May 2—new owners plan to invest in a new snowmaking system and improved lifts to support workers and guests. - ➤ Teachers in Rutland City voted 93% to authorize a strike starting May 14 after one and a half years of stalled negotiations over pay and sick time—this action could close schools for nearly 1,800 students and disrupt classes at Stafford Technical Center. The board rejected recommended salary increases and issued reduction-in-force notices, prompting the union to file an unfair labor practice complaint while superintendent Bill Olsen remains open to further talks.
