- ➤ State police in Monkton investigated a crash on Saturday morning at 10:20 a.m. when a stolen 2023 Audi Q5 struck a car on Hardscrabble Road, causing its two occupants to flee on foot before being picked up by a white Chevy pickup truck (witness reports) and police are seeking public tips (call 802-388-4919) as the investigation continues. - ➤ The Young Writers Project published a new entry titled 'Home, community, inclusion' by 17-year-old Jaquira Earley of West Rutland with artwork 'Hidden in Plain Sight' by 16-year-old Bradee Traverse. Their work is part of the Tomorrow Project on display at Burlington City Hall — presented in partnership with Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity. VTDigger
- ➤ Almost 40 Vermont musicians submitted videos for NPR's Tiny Desk Contest as Vermont Public highlighted local artists including folk singer Sarah Bell and the band Miles of Fire. Bell mixes blues and folk with empowering lyrics while Miles of Fire, known for their artsy metallic hardcore sound, offered an unplugged version of Repeater—marking a creative change in their approach. - ➤ The Vermont Chamber of Commerce announced that Major General Knight will be honored as Citizen of the Year on May 21 at the von Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe — guests will gather from 5—7 p.m. to celebrate his over 40 years of service and leadership during floods and the COVID-19 pandemic. As a lifelong Huntington resident with a distinguished career that includes a Bronze Star, Knight is recognized for his dedication to Vermont. VermontBiz
- ➤ Vermont lawmakers passed the Climate Superfund Act to require fossil fuel companies to help pay for damage caused by climate change, and the U.S. Department of Justice has filed a complaint to block its enforcement. Rep. LaLonde and Sen. Hashim said the law shifts recovery costs from taxpayers to those who create the problem. VermontBiz
- ➤ The Vermont Agency of Transportation released a road construction report for this week that shows Scenic VT-108 reopened on May 9 and lists planned work on many state highways such as I-89 and I-91 from Barre Town to Williston. Motorists are told to allow extra travel time — follow posted detours — as lane closures and reduced speeds will affect traffic throughout the week. VermontBiz
