  • Residents are rethinking heating options as oil prices climbed from under $3.50 to over $5.50 per gallon, prompting plans to switch to pellet boilers or heat pump systems. Fuel dealers are offering fewer fixed-price contracts due to market uncertainty (affecting tight budgets).  VTDigger
  • A recent report shows that childcare costs increased 5.2% from Sept. 2024 to Sept. 2025, leaving families paying nearly 15% of their income and Vermont families 17% on care.   • Drivers and pedestrians on Pine Street saw new traffic lights replacing a four-way stop at Maple Street as part of the Champlain Parkway Project linking the interstate to downtown.   • South Burlington residents report delayed mail deliveries that cause missed bills and important notices — a USPS spokesperson said staffing shortages on certain routes are to blame and announced a weekly job fair at Homewood Suites to help hire permanent carriers.  VTDigger
  • Governor Phil Scott established an AI Economic Task Force led by Vermont Gas CEO Neale Lunderville to plan for smart AI use — residents are invited to apply to join its working groups as the effort aims to boost rural opportunities, with recommendations coming within 90 days.  NBC5
  • On Monday night, Burlington City Council voted 11 to 1 to reject a gift statue intended to honor local Native American tribes in Battery Park after residents questioned the Missisquoi Abenaki’s legitimacy. HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, five Vermonters were sickened by salmonella linked to backyard poultry flocks, according to the Vermont Department of Health, which is investigating multistate outbreaks. Residents are advised to wash their hands after handling poultry & eggs.  NBC5
  • Vermont signed a law in March that rejects federal vaccine rollbacks and allows buying vaccines from sources other than the CDC, while local pediatricians report more frequent vaccine counseling sessions amid rising hesitancy.
