COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds gathered in Richmond Thursday night to cheer on Vermont Olympians including Julia Kern, Paula Moltzan, Ryan Cochran-Siegel, and Ben Ogden. Local business Bivo & the town hosted the parade and celebration that featured Olympic-themed cupcakes.  NBC5
  • Low-income families and individuals can visit state parks free from the end of May through October through a privately funded pilot program. The initiative, expanding the Park Access Fund and partnering with state agencies (including Reach Up, 3SquaresVT, Fuel Assistance, and WIC), boosts park access.  Burlington Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Vermont musician Troy Millette postponed his May 30 show at The Old Stage because ravens are nesting in the rafters — state and federal laws protect the birds so the concert is now set for Sept. 25 as the season closer.  Burlington Free Press
  • Lagerfest returns on June 13 at the Essex Experience in front of Black Flannel Brewing, featuring 25 breweries, live music, and food. Tickets cost $42 before June 1 — rising to $50 on the event day, and each includes 10 tasting samples and a commemorative glass for ages 21+.  Burlington Free Press
  • A Shelburne teen released an album as she turned 18 + marking the end of childhood and the start of her new creative journey in the local arts scene.  The Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Burlington fourth graders learn about local wildlife by raising baby trout in their classroom for the short film 'A School of Trout'—a project that guides students in exploring nature and understanding local ecosystems.  Vermont Public

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council approved printing over 100 signs for about $3,000 to guide calls for mental health, drug-related, and other safety issues in parks and downtown. Signs will soon be posted with clear instructions (for emergencies, call 911) after consultations with police and fire chiefs.  Burlington Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hospitals have submitted plans to cut spending by sharing supplies and shifting care offsite (as directed by the Agency of Human Services). The proposals submitted in April include rough estimates with no detailed saving projections, and state leaders call for clearer figures to address projected revenue shortfalls.  VTDigger

  • Freshman Irie Shedd struck out 18 batters in the BFA’s 6-2 win over Essex on Friday, May 22 & kept the undefeated Comets on a winning run this season.  Burlington Free Press
  • Non-binary athlete Brian Morseman has dropped out of the 2026 Vermont City Marathon due to an Achilles injury, leaving no invited non-binary runners in the race, officials said — Kenyan native Philemon Terer also exited after a visa issue.  NBC5
  • The top athletes at this year’s Vermont City Marathon will vie for cash prizes, with winners in open + nonbinary divisions set to receive $2,400 and other categories offering lower amounts. Prize amounts are based on gun time, and races continue throughout the competition.  NBC5
