  • On Memorial Day, many veterans gathered at Colchester’s Josh’s House to honor fallen soldiers and support one another. The nonprofit—named after veteran Josh Pallotta who died in 2014 after struggling with PTSD and a brain injury—offered healing programs, peer support, and community meals and welcomed nearly 12,000 veterans last year.  NBC5

  • Downtown businesses in Burlington reported lower foot traffic during Memorial Day weekend due to ongoing Main Street construction, with owner Paul Buschner noting a 30-40% drop in sales and customers facing unclear directions.   • Governor Phill Scott proclaimed May as Foster Care Month to renew Vermont’s commitment to over 800 children and youth—today the Vermont Department for Children and Families thanked foster, kinship, and respite care providers for their service. The department urged families to consider fostering or respite care to help strengthen support for Vermont’s most vulnerable children.  VermontBiz
  • Ryan McLiverty, a cyber analyst at the Vermont Intelligence Center in Williston, earned a national award for his cybersecurity work in late April—he was recognized by the National Network of Fusion Centers for excellence in cyber protection.  Burlington Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vermont hospitals charged more than five times the average price for outpatient drugs, prompting lawmakers to propose a cap on costs. The House health care committee advanced an amendment—set to limit prices to 130% starting July 1 and 120% from January—that now heads to the Senate for further review.  VTDigger

  • Vermont’s signature creemee—an ice cream with extra butterfat—is sold in about 400 spots statewide and is a favorite treat during summer and fall.
