ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A portion of VT 117 in Jericho was closed after a crash and downed power lines near house #118—emergency crews worked to clear the area as drivers were urged to use alternate routes.  MyChamplainValley.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A 25-year-old woman from Connecticut was sentenced to 10.5 years in prison for drug and firearm crimes in Brattleboro from March 2020 to October 2023 — she led a violent gang that trafficked drugs, traded firearms, and used local drivers and Vermonters to distribute large quantities of drugs from several streets.  MyChamplainValley.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Vermont has 15 new historic roadside markers installed or delivered as part of its marker program that began in 1947—these markers honor significant events from the Civil War to novelist Ralph Ellison’s memorable summer in Fayston—and a marker in Weybridge will be dedicated on June 21 to recognize one of America’s earliest same-sex couples.  VTDigger

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new daycare at 112 Garden St. in South Burlington is set to open Monday for UVM Medical Center staff children ages 6 weeks to 5 years—designed to match healthcare shift hours. Supported by Act 76 funding, all 68 spots are filled and eligible employees with at least one year of service can join the waitlist—providing a vital solution in Vermont’s child care crisis.  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Phil Scott signed House Bill 167 that funds the Vermonters Feeding Vermonters program and lets the Vermont Foodbank buy directly from local farms. The program, which bought over 5.7 million pounds of food from 299 farms, will take effect July 1 and requires an annual report each March — boosting local economic activity.  MyChamplainValley.com
